Steel is a metal alloy, metallic iron as a basic element with carbon as the main alloying element. The content of elemental carbon in the steel ranges from 0.2% to 2.1% by weight according to its grade. Function of carbon in the steel is as hardener element by preventing shifts in the crystal lattice dislocations (crystal lattice) iron atoms. Other alloying elements other than carbon is usually added (titanium), chrome (chromium), nickel, vanadium, cobalt and tungsten (wolfram). By varying the content of carbon and other alloying elements, various kinds of steel quality can be obtained. The addition of carbon content in steel can improve the hardness (hardness) and the strength of its appeal (tensile strength), but on the other hand makes it brittle (brittle) and lower tenacity (ductility).
